Philip and Elizabeth must stop an assassin from taking out key US scientists, while Stan and the FBI hunt the same man. Grannie shocks Elizabeth with the truth of what happened between Philip and Irina in New York.
Philip returns home from playing racquetball to be told by Elizabeth that they have a mission - stopping a contract assassin who has been hired by the KGB to kill American scientists. They monitor the house of one of the scientists before planting a bomb and killing the engine in his car in the hope that he notices it and gets his wife to safety.
Later, Claudia tells Elizabeth about Philip's affair with Irina. While dining with the Beemans, Philip notices Elizabeth's change in mood and she tells him that she knows he slept with Irina. She decides to be his professional partner only and abandon the "real marriage".
After the contract assassin kills a scientist and three of his FBI bodyguards, Agent Gaad vows vengeance. Elizabeth and Philip track the assassin down to his hotel room where he signals that he has a bomb. A gunfight ensues and while the assassin attempts to detonate the bomb, Elizabeth throws it into the bathroom, where he blows himself up.
Meanwhile, until Nina can be extracted for protection, Gaad gives Stan the keys to a safe house in which to meet her, which she surmises Stan means to be their love nest. Lastly, after being spurned by Martha, Agent Amador becomes suspicious and starts to follow her.
